Perma-Fix Awarded Task Orders to Support Los Alamos National Laboratory to Provide Waste Treatment and Disposal Services

ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/08/14 -- Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: PESI) today announced that Perma-Fix has been awarded a new task order with a maximum ceiling value of $1,200,000 to provide waste treatment and disposal services in support of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). In 2012, the Department of Energy (DOE)'s prime contractor at Los Alamos, Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS) issued a $250 million "Master Task Order Agreement (MTOA)" for transportation, recycling, treatment and/or disposal for radioactive and hazardous wastes generated from clean-up and on-going operations at LANL. Perma-Fix was a member of Portage, Inc.'s winning proposal under this MTOA and has recently been awarded a task to process Radioactive Liquid Waste (RLW) bottoms projected to range from 50,000 to 100,000 gallons annually. Perma-Fix has also won task orders in recent months under this MTOA from other prime contract holders to provide waste treatment services for LANL wastes.

To accomplish the scope of this recent task order, Perma-Fix will receive the liquid wastes at the Perma-Fix Northwest Facility in Richland, Washington. The wastes will be volume reduced by utilizing Perma-Fix's thermal destruction technology and disposed as solid low-level radioactive wastes at a DOE approved disposal facility.

Dr. Louis F. Centofanti, Chairman and CEO, stated, "We are pleased to assist Portage through this MTOA task order and continue to support DOE and LANS in their efforts to safely clean-up and manage wastes generated at LANL. Perma-Fix has collaborated with DOE, LANS, and Portage over the past several years to address some of the most problematic waste streams in the DOE complex."
