Perma-Fix Awarded the Prestigious Pro Patria Award by the Florida Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve

to Reservists and National Guard Members

GAINESVILLE, Fla., May 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. (Nasdaq: PESI; BSE) (Germany: PES.BE), a national environmental services company with three of its 10 operations in Florida, has been awarded the prestigious Pro Patria Award by the Florida Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and will be Florida's nominee for the national Freedom Award, of which only five are presented each year.

Perma-Fix's Pro Patria Award, and the accompanying Committee Chair Award and My Boss is a Patriot Award, are for the company's support of its Reserve and National Guard employees called to duty after September 11. Perma-Fix, headquartered in Gainesville, Florida, and with other Florida operations in Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale, was chosen because the company liberally expanded pay and benefits to Reservists and National Guard members who work for the company and who have been called to active duty.

A total of 476 companies were nominated for the My Boss is a Patriot Award in Florida this year and received certificates, the committee said, and eight have been awarded the Committee Chair Award, including Perma-Fix. Only one company, however, wins the Pro Patria Award annually in each state.

Dr. Louis F. Centofanti, Perma-Fix president and chief executive officer, explained: "We just had to do more to show our support for our employees who are military-reservists called to duty after this national tragedy. Our employees are one of our greatest assets here at Perma-Fix, and our current employees are the best team I have ever had the pleasure of working with."

The company was nominated for the My Boss is a Patriot Award by its employees. The Florida Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense organization, has been bestowing the My Boss is a Patriot Award and the other awards since 1972. The Pro Patria Award is the organization's highest honor for a corporation. Dr. Centofanti was honored at an award dinner at the Officers Club, Patrick Air Force Base, next to Cape Canaveral, on May 16.

Perma-Fix also has two operations in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where it is a major government contractor, treating mixed radioactive hazardous waste, and in Dayton, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Valdosta, Georgia; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and St. Louis, Missouri.
