Perma-Fix Announces Fourth Annual Mixed Waste Treatment Forum

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Nov 11, 2004 (PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX) -- Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. (Nasdaq: PESI; Boston) (Germany: PES.BE) today announced that it will hold its fourth annual Mixed Waste Treatment Forum on December 6 - 9, 2004, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Opryland Hotel. This year's forum will focus on Perma-Fix's efforts in successful support of accelerated cleanup projects at U.S. Department of Energy sites, as well as commercial facilities, and the special waste management challenges involved with those projects. Perma-Fix is an industry leader in treatment of the nation's mixed waste with three fully licensed and permitted facilities, which are located in Tennessee and Florida.

The three-day forum will host more than 100 experts from the nation's nuclear industry, including key executives and representatives from the Departments of Energy and Defense, nuclear utilities, pharmaceutical companies and research institutions, who are scheduled to attend and present new information regarding the relevant recent changes in the programs that impact the nuclear industry. The forum will also include presentations from Perma-Fix customers that will provide specific project information regarding new Perma- Fix treatment processes for orphan wastes (i.e., wastes for which no treatment method previously existed), special treatment projects and our core treatment technologies.

All of the information presented will showcase Perma-Fix's capabilities to help the nuclear industry safely and efficiently treat and dispose of mixed waste. The last day of the seminar includes tours of the Perma-Fix Diversified Scientific Services, Inc. (DSSI) and the Materials and Energy Corporation (M&EC) facilities, which are both located in the Oak Ridge, Tennessee, vicinity.

The constantly expanding Perma-Fix mixed waste treatment capabilities maintain Perma-Fix's leadership in the mixed waste treatment industry. Dr. Louis F. Centofanti, president and chief executive officer, commented, "We are pleased with our ability to continue to develop innovative treatment processes to meet our customers' challenging waste treatment needs. With this year's focus on supporting accelerated cleanup, it is important to host this forum to discuss the unique challenges involved with safely and cost effectively handling millions of pounds of legacy, remedial and newly generated mixed waste."
